Mauloa Names New Chief Operating Officer and Advisory Board Members

Appointments provide Mauloa portfolio companies with deep strategic expertise while keeping owners in control.

Potomac, Maryland – December 14, 2022 – Mauloa, the private investment firm built for business owners, today announced the appointment of David Flyer as the firm’s Chief Operating Officer. David joins Mauloa from BOWA, one of the leading luxury home remodeling firms in the country, where he was President and Chief Operating Officer. Mauloa has also finalized the composition of its advisory board, whose 10 members provide hands-on advice and guidance to the management teams of Mauloa portfolio companies.

“At Mauloa, we understand that business owners need more than capital to take their business to the next level—they also need access to additional expertise and connections,” said Andrew Sachs, Mauloa’s CEO. “As Mauloa’s Chief Operating Officer, David will be working intensively with our portfolio companies to help them reach their strategic goals—while keeping the owners in charge and the company culture intact.”

During David’s 19 years at BOWA, he oversaw the company’s steady transformation from a local contractor to one of the largest high-end remodeling companies in the country, approaching 100 employees and 40M in revenue. Under his leadership, BOWA moved into new geographic areas, improved processes across the company, and helped develop new offerings to capitalize on market trends. “David’s experience and track record perfectly position him to advise the management teams of Mauloa’s portfolio companies. He’s been in their shoes,” said Sachs.

Mauloa, which was recently named to Inc.’s 2022 List of Founder-Friendly Investors, is the new name of Sachs Capital, which backed more than 20 founder-led, family-owned and owner-managed companies in a range of industries since its inception in 2007. Mauloa only makes minority investments and does so without any required exit timetable. This approach means that founders stay in control and the timing of any exit or subsequent financing is based on what’s best for the company.

“Mauloa provides companies with patient, long-term capital,” said Tyler Weinberg, Mauloa’s Chief Investment Officer. “Our long-term perspective is particularly essential during periods of uncertainty and volatility. History shows time and again that these periods present unique opportunities for businesses to solidify their operations and expand their market presence—but only for those who are willing to look beyond the short-term turbulence.”

Mauloa has also finalized its Advisory Board comprising senior executives from leading companies across a range of industries. The Advisory Board provides the management teams of Mauloa portfolio companies with insight, expertise, and access to high-level professional relationships. The Mauloa Advisory Board includes:
